#GBE2: Curiosity/Wonder and After Life

As a little girl, I kept seeing these huge wads of toilet paper in the bathroom trashcan each month and couldn't figure out what they were. So one day, I reached into the garbage and opened one to see for myself. Scared the snot out of me!

Maybe curiosity is not such a good thing, after all it killed the cat. Plus there is the old "ignorance is bliss" phrase too. None the less, I've always been intrigued by death. I wonder what happens when we die? Where do we go? or...Will we come back in a reincarnated form? The only true way to find out is to die, and I'm not that curious. I am, however, sure we're never totally gone because the body is made of energy and energy can never be destroyed. It only changes form; scientifically a part of us will always remain on Earth.

None the less, I believe in reincarnation and karma. For example, as a teacher, I must have done something horrendous in my past life. I have a theory that my current and past students belonged to villages that I sacked and burned, and they continuously get their karmic pay back on me every year. That's the history of everyone in the teaching profession because why else would we suffer such abuse?

But the barbarian's life must have been an old, old existence because back in college, a hypnotist captivated us kids in a journey to our past lives to observe what we had experienced. I was an African American slave and knowing myself, it makes sense. Although I'm white, I've always gotten along well with black people and feel a natural chemistry with African Americans who I've worked with or have had the pleasure of being around. Also, I instinctively have a terrible fear of authority figures and hate wearing turtle necks or anything tight around my neck or wrists. I've even experienced anxiety and had to look away upon seeing someone with something bound tightly around their neck. Yep! I was probably bound, shackled, and eventually hung. In my mind, hanging would be the worst way to die.

What? You don't believe this? Fine. I'll prove it to you in the next life. And by the way, a friend of ours visited a hypnotist who told her she was Queen Isabella in a past life. As a result, she has apologized for the way she had treated Jews.

I thought like you too..(not about the neck and wrist thoughts tho..wow, onto something about that one) My mom introduced us to a Father once, she met him in the town of Bethlhem (Ct) kid you NOT and he studied "Mystical theology" he knew Padre Pio (the monk who would bleed from the wrists and head when he said Mass) and he exposed us to the "mystical" part of the Catholic Church not always shared on the pulpit. St Theresa of Velieux, St Francis who understoond the animals, mystics, Little Rose, all who saw Jesus and spoke with Angels, nevertheless, we have but one soul.

I think you're an angel missy...everyone who can unroll one of those and write about it..IS!!!!!! LOL adore you woman!

This is an inspiring post today! I am fascinated by the idea of reincarnation, but not sure if I can quite grasp it on one hand, and on the other, why wouldn't He send us back as someone else. Where else could some of the innate likes, fears and obsessions come from? (Badly phrased, but you know!)

Interesting post. Certainly gives one something to think about.

This opens up wonderful fodder for conversation. Reincarnation (or the wad in the trashcan) either way it prompts thought on the part of the reader. I have a friend that is a professional past life regression hypnotherapist, she could probably add a bundle to this... too bad she's not blogging.

I'm still not sure whether it is reincarnation that takes place, or parallel existence, when I figure it out I'll let you know. Meanwhile, I will just continue to abide by this method of thought, it's easier to chew on (for now).

I only have A Few Problems with Reincarnation....

1.) There are more people alive today, than at any time in our own human history! Where did they all come from?

2.) How come nobody under hypnosis was ever: A Peasant, A Heinous And World-Hated Criminal, or [ just ] A Poverty Stricken Nobody? Surely, they existed... didn't they? They exist now!

I was probably Attila the hun's right hand man, and my sisters were sheep, I tell you, sheep. So much we don't know. So much to puzzle over.

I must have died in a confined space because I get really uncomfortable in small places or in crowds. I think there really is something to this. Great post!

I believe in reincarnation. For me, it makes perfect sense and just 'feels right.' I think that as souls, we have many, many lessons to learn, and walking in many different shoes is the perfect way to truly understand what it is to be. It also helps me to make sense of the fact that we all come into this world with unique strengths and challenges, and that those we might have a tendency to pity--those born blind or very ill or into abuse or abject poverty--are simply taking their turn at that path. Ones we all will walk in our journey. And by walking all these paths, we will realize that while the packaging varies, we are all the same and part of one.

Just my two cents.

well that explains my dislike for neckties and turtle necks..and can I put in a request to comeback as a politician..I think it's my turn to be a lazy ass riding the gravy train

I hate turtle necks, too. Can't stand anything confining around my neck.

I'm hoping to see another planet when I go.

The earliest dream I remember was of a huge fire, a large home or mansion, burning in the distance. In it, I am disembodied, floating down a path that leads to the house. As I near the fire, I see beside the path a dolls head. The body has burned and the eyes are gone, and in the back of the inside of its head I see glowing embers. Scared the crap out of me. I would love for someone to tell me that it's memories of a movie my mother took me to when I was a toddler, because if it wasn't, why would a four or five year old be dreaming this? Oh yes--I'm terrified of fire.

It's a fascinating subject, but I'm not sure I really want to know the answer, at least not for a long time.

Thanks for all of the fascinating comments! I read a book called "My Name is Memory" by Ann Brashares. It was an amazing book about a man who remembers all of his past lives. He has been in love with the same woman for thousands of years, but he can never seem to share a life with her. For example, she's 80 and he's 16 or he's a dying soldier and she's the nurse. Plus, she remembers nothing, so he must make her fall in love with him all over again.

In response to my skeptic reader, I've read that the same soul can occupy multiple bodies at once. Plus there are a lot of new souls being born. What do you mean "Nobody under hypnosis was a peasant, criminal, etc?" What am I, chopped liver? I was a slave ... and a mass murderer too. ;) Besides, there were a lot of nobodies in that college hypnotism session. You just hear more about the great ones.

In defense of turtlenecks, what they don't hide they try to keep in place. I would wear them under my bathing suit if I could. Happy Hanukkah Joyce! Julie

I also believe in reincarnation, but never explored my past lives. I wonder if we were friends before.

I enjoyed the post. I don't want to think of my past life (if I have one) and I'm kind of scared of where I will end up in the next one, but you've got me thinking and that's hard to do.

With every act of kindness (adding light to this world) we reincarnate the souls of loved ones who have placed us here.

When your great great great grandchild looks into his mothers eyes, a part of you will be in both!

Happy Hanukkah! Marc :)
