Today, my son Daniel turns 27 years old,

#MM: Songs From When I Was Sixteen

Although this is a great topic, it does open me up to show just how old I really am. I was sixteen at a time of some of the best songs ever written. "Grease" came out that year, and many of those musical numbers climbed the billboard charts. When looking for these songs, I "Youtubed" the year and scribbled ideas on the back of a Back Yard Burgers receipt that I was supposed to use for a survey. I took the survey and submitted only to realize I was scoring with the great Firehouse Subs in mind. Oops. They'll really be surprised when they learn that the restaurant gave us free cookies. I don't think they have chocolate chip cookies on the menu.

As for the songs, I don't like to post more than three songs a week because I know we are all busy; however, it's going to be tough to narrow my list down to just three.

They don't make them like they used to, so enjoy some "Old Time Music" by Bob Seger.

And of course, who could forget the Village People? It was tough knowing whether to post Macho Man or YMCA, since they both came out in the same year. YMCA got a higher ranking, but being Jewish, we don't go to the Young Man's Christain Association. So, here's to those Macho Men. And to think, back in high school, it didn't even dawn on me that these guys were gay.

Now the last post is a tough decision. Do I go with Rolling Stones, "Miss You" or maybe The Jacksons singing "Shake Your Body Down to the Ground"? How about a little Cheap Trick? I originally saw this one as a 1978 hit, but then someone posted it as a 1979 favorite. Research tells me it was released on Halloween, 1977. Which just goes to show, I was listening to it at age 16.

#MM: Duets

When I think of duets, I think of these mushy love songs, which isn't my style, so I had to look for something fun.

Here's a song from Annie Get Your Gun:
"Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better."

Next up, is one I've posted before, but hey, it's a fave. It makes me laugh every time I see it. Once again, without further ado, is King Louis and Baloo the Bear from the Jungle Book: "Swingdance."

Last up, is a fun duet from Paul McCarney and Michael Jackson: "Say, Say, Say."

#MM: Guns and Roses

Although Guns N' Roses was a band of misfits who met in LA in the eighties, they created amazing music. The lead singer, Axel Rose, claimed to have been arrested more than twenty times and spent three months in jail. So it's no surprise that Guns N' Roses was seen as dangerous with their anarchist attitude. Today, they still perform and produced an album in 2008, but for the most part have been out of the lime light.

#MM: Can You Stand It?

This week's theme is to post a song that is new to us and we can't get enough of it. This is a problem for me because in the last two weeks, I've posted this song in one form or another. Last Monday, I posted it as part of a Rewind of 2014, and the week before, I posted it as a rewrite of a Hanukah song. Well, you asked for it, but you don't have to listen to it, again . . . unless, of course, you can't get enough of it. Here's the song I've been singing since before Thanksgiving. It will probably be a frequent post should you join the hop.

I'm All About That Bass,
by Meghan Trainor

Here's an old one that I've never gotten enough of either.
I always think of Farris Bueller when I hear this song.

Oh, Yeah, by Yello

#MM Wood

Sometimes, dominoes are wooden. Sometimes, they're made of plastic,
but Jord watches are always wooden.
Have you entered my contest to win your own Jord watch? If not, stop by my post
and enter on the Rafflecopter above.

Jord Wooden Watch Giveaway

Here's something fun to view with music,
even if these dominoes look plastic.

The tone was beautiful, even though
I never played as well as this guy.
Wood is awesome!

Now go enter to win a wooden watch?

#MM The Sixties and Seventies

This week's theme on Monday Music Moves Me
is Music from the Sixties and Seventies.
This should be a fun walk down memory lane.

1960s
Here's a fun one that was released in November, 1968. I remember sitting in the elementary school gym waiting for an assembly to start. The teachers played some music while we waited, and this one cracked us up. It's got to be one of the stupidest songs ever written. Plus, I love the great clothes! Check out this groovy tune. "I Love My Shirt," by Trev and Simon.

1970s
My mom told me this one was about getting ice cream. I was old enough not to believe her. Afternoon Delight by Starland Vocal Band came out in 1976.

Jord Wooden Watch Giveaway
And finally, stayed tuned to my blog because I am going to be giving away a beautiful Jord watch real soon. Here's one of my favorite songs about time from Chicago, "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" It was released in 1969.

Music From Memphis, TN

WC Handy (Father of the Blues) statue on Beale Street
He wrote the Memphis Blues.
I chose this week's Musical Monday Moves Me theme. Everyone needs to tell us where they are from and to feature music from their home town. Since I've lived in Memphis for the last 29 years, I now call this Tennessee town home. First up is a song from a young artist who was an APEX (intellectually gifted) student in Shelby County Schools where I teach. I know a couple of ladies who taught him, and I once saw him perform at one of our teacher's conferences. Unfortunately, I wasn't smart enough to ask Dr. Weiner when Justin Timberlake was coming in so I could schedule my dental appointments to be "In Sync" with his visits. I never saw another one of his patients, Gennifer Goodwin, in my dentist's office, either.

The next artist is The King. Although he died before I moved to Memphis, my father-in-law taught him how to tie a tie. My husband used to see him regularly at the Memphis Jewish Community Center after hours. He'd come out with his buddies to play basketball. Uncle Bernard Lansky, the clothier to the king, was so tight with Elvis that my husband was invited to ride in one of the limos at his funeral; however, Mitchell couldn't get home from college. Elvis Presley recorded his first record at Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee. Yo! Here comes Elvis.

There are many more artists with a Memphis connection. Ike and Tina Turner once owned a home not too far from where we live, Aretha Franklin brought lots of "Respect" to Memphis, Tennessee, and Rosanne Cash was born here while her father Johnny was recording at Sun Studios. Though not born in Memphis, B.B. King moved here and Isaac Hayes died here. We have become the mecca for music over the years as many artists lived here. But I know no one has ever heard of any of these people I mentioned or the many more one would find if you googled "Memphis Musicians." Not being one to post a lot of songs, I will end with one final song about our town. Marc Cohn wrote it after being touched by a visit to Memphis. He captured this place so well, that here he is.

They even made a Memphis the Musical.
So, do you this I was being selfish when I suggested this theme
or did I just want a chance to brag?

Musical Monday: Head East

Driving on the highway, my daughter told me to "Head East." Before I knew it,
a song came to mind, so here it is.

Does anyone remember this second song?

Tune in next week when the theme will be about songs from our hometowns. Do you think I'll have trouble finding a singer from Memphis?

#MM Live At The Garden

I am thrilled to be this week's spotlight dancer and to take you to the concert we attended Saturday night. Sorry I can't share the delicious picnic basket, but I'll give you a taste of the music we heard.

Monday Music Moves Me is into male rock 'n roll or country stars this week, so I'm featuring the bands we just heard.

First up, we enjoyed The Plain White Ts. They were a special treat that didn't even get their name printed on the ticket. Quite an under appreciated band who had a fabulous stage presence.

Next up came Daughtry, who we really couldn't see because two rude women blocked our view and refused to sit down throughout the entire performance, even though five different people contacted event staff. When I asked nicely, the beotch said, "I can do what I want." Selfish, but I believe karma will get her back.

Before the Goo Goo Dolls took stage, event staff had a long chat with the women––who stayed seated throughout most of the performance. Of course, it didn't matter to us because we moved seats along with four other frustrated people.

As the spotlight dancer, I get to pick the theme in two weeks. I've chosen a great one for me here in Memphis and anyone else from a musical place. If it's tough for you, feel free to reach a little outside your borders as I present two requests: Tell us where you are from, and post your hometown bands, artists, or songs.

#MM Celebrate Me

This week's theme for Monday Music Moves Me is to post a song of celebration and then one that describes ourselves. First up, let's celebrate. Stevie Wonder's Do I Do has always made me feel like celebrating.

And next up please enjoy a song that describes me. Those who have followed my blog for any length of time know I'm totally nuts.
