Wordless Wednesday: She's Gone!

I remember sitting in the limousine at my father's funeral procession. While everyone around me wept, I felt a heaviness in my heart and couldn't speak. That's what it felt like when my youngest daughter left for college. "Heavy heart" is not just an expression. It's a real biological response that goes beyond tears.

  1. When my son left home I was heavy hearted for about two weeks and then I was fine. I've been fine ever since.

    Have a terrific day. :)

  2. So sorry for the loss of your father and the empty nest stage of life... hopefully there will be something that will come into your life to fill that emptiness you feel.

  3. Thanks for the comments. My father died in 1993. Although I've shed many tears and have been sad at times, I haven't had that exact feeling since then.

  4. I know, I didn't want to cook anything special for years becuase I didn't want her to miss it. Don't know what I would have done without her younger brothers. But be off good cheef for life unfolds in unexpected blessed ways. It took nearly a decade but I got to stay with her a year and a half when she delivered my granddaughter. I wept then when I came back home and it's hard now that my son has a daughter too with two grandchildren to visit, but we all see each other as much as possible and life is wonderful!

  5. Sometimes change like that is pretty hard to accept. A little chocolate might help.

  8. both our boys left home within 6 months of each other... even tho they are 5 years apart... that really felt like an empty nest & still does. just hearing their voice and esp with the short visits can brighten us up! ~hugs, Faythe @GMT

  11. I'm going to be there with you in three years and I'm dreading it. Every stage so far has been easier than I expected. I sure don't miss the toddler years! I hope that them growing up and moving away will be the same way.

  13. I agree ~ I felt the same way when my son went off to college ~ It was an end of a part of my life and yet that is what I reared him to do ~ "Fly on his own" ~ hurts just the same ~ hugs to you ~ namaste, Carol ^_^

  15. Ahh...I remember when I left home to go away to college. It was so hard on my parents, but the next best gift was a homemade package full of goodies. Give her a call and send her something sweet from home. She will love it and you will smile. :)

  16. I must agree with Mary, a box sent to college is a student's dream. Sorry you have a heavy heart. The important part is your child knows you love her. " Living without love is ludicrous" Laura Rogers lol

  19. There comes a time when we have to 'let our kids go' - it's the reason we brought them into the world, to become independent, well-balanced adults. So don't be sad, be happy for your daughter that she has taken another step towards adulthood.

  20. I'll probably be feeling this way at the end of next week. I'm going to visit my mom and meet up with a couple of my daughters and granddaughters next week. It will be sad when I have to come back home and leave them again until who knows when the next time will be.

  21. As my son grew up and left,I missed him too. Missed having him around, but I'm also finding a lot of rewards in an empty house. An empty nest just means we have taught our kids to fly.
And the video, THANKS, one of my all-time favorite Beatles tunes. This was one of the songs that made me start listening to them back in the day. I've played it twice all ready.
