#GBE2: No Comfort in My Fictional World

Although impoverished, fifteen-year-old Ben enjoys his loving mother, good friends, and the comfort of his rundown home; however, his world topples when a balding weirdo storms into his apartment, shoots his mom, and kidnaps him. He rides five hours up a rain-slicked highway to a lush mansion with sculptured bushes, the scent of blossoms from the yard, and historic paintings each overhung by a fancy light.

Although his new home says, "Enjoy comfort," Ben carries anger toward a mob father who is as cold as his apartment the day the heater broke. When Ben's temper flares, he strikes the villain and then finds himself pinned to wooden paneling while being whipped.

From then on, Ben obeys with a passive aggression until he is tricked into performing a horrendous deed. He escapes into adventures that only a few of my friends know about because no agent has been willing to read my manuscript. Comfort is a foreign concept for my book characters.

    1. A friend told me my manuscript kept her up all night because she was so worried about Ben; however, that's not what agents want to hear in a query letter. It's a roller coaster ride, indeed, but no one with the power to make dreams come true has bothered to buckle a seat belt. My son has a friend who just started a new job at a closed house. I hope one day she'll read it on her own. Connections are everything! Thanks for your input.

  3. Unique. Not like every plot out there. That is admirable.

  14. Sounds like Hollywood to me. Look for a Hollywood agent (you know the old saying, 'shoot for the moon, if you fail you'll land among the stars). :)

Wishing you speed in finding the perfect publisher for your work!

  15. I actually hadn't queried this manuscript since 2010, until yesterday. I've written three novels since BEING BOMPSY CARLEFFA; however, this one is my favorite, and I keep coming back to it. I always thought it would be my breakout novel, but after so much rejection, I had moved on to something else.

  16. I think you should never give up on your dream. I think there are many famous books in print that took the author years before they found someone willing to publish it. Are there people that actively go out and search for a publisher for an author, something like a manager? I am not sure if you get one before you are published or after. It seems obvious that you will get one after because everyone wants a piece of the pie.

I really liked the short snippet that you shared with us and it seems like it would be a nice read. I hope someone who knows someone who knows a publisher will read this and work towards getting it published.

Happy Theme Thursday and am sending you lots of luck to get it published. Hope you have a nice start to your vacation and find some time to dream big dreams.

    God bless.
