#MM Song About Music

This week's theme is songs about music, so I immediately thought of American Pie by Don McLean––an American classic that I never grow tired of. He sings about "the day the music died" . . . but it didn't really, even though there was a horrific plane crash that ended the lives of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper.

Here's Don McLean singing "American Pie."

And the music whose artists died, but the songs are still alive.

Buddy Holly singing "Peggy Sue"

Richie Valens singing "Let's Go."

The Big Bopper singing "Chantilly Lace."

Excellent music to start the week with, Joyce! I haven't heard your retro picks in quite some time, especially "Let's Go". When "American Pie" came out I didn't realize the song was about Buddy Holly until years later. It's interesting singers of yesteryear died in accidents usually but today when you hear about a musician death it's usually related to drugs. Of course, we know a lot of those performers had problems with chemical dependency but this sort of stuck out in my head for some reason. Oh well, let's shake, rattle, and roll! Thanks for the dance, my friend and have a songsational week! :D

What a great song. I thought of that. What a tragic day. Love it.

"American Pie" was an okay song that got played and analyzed to death, ruining it for me. Still, he's an excellent songwriter, and anyone who likes Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper can't be all bad...

Excellent song choices, Joyce! I almost chose American Pie - I'm glad you did! And your retro tunes were rockin'! ;) Have a great week!

And The Radio Played a Rockstar like Springsteen because he said I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll so Play It Again!

Some great songs here. Huge Buddy Holly fan (like Richie Valens too!) but have to go with the classic and amazing 'American Pie' by Don McLean - love that song!
