Musical Monday Moves Me: We Didn't Start the Fire

I am devastated about the attack on Israel, this past weekend. Current events made me think of this song and the new remake of it.

Billy Joel originally wrote We Didn't Start the Fire in 1989.

Fall Out Boy recently rewrote Joel's song with updated lyrics to show more current events.

Musical Monday at Mister Hats, Aww

My son is a haberdasher. That's right! Daniel owns Mister Hats in Memphis, Tennessee. So, imagine our excitement when Al Kapone and JP on Tha Track put out a video for their new song, "Lies" filmed at Mister Hats!
Above is a photo of Daniel with his grandfather, Alvin Lansky of blessed memory, the original Mister Hats. When it became difficult for my father-in-law to run the hat store, my son bought it. Business is fabulous and includes an online store where you can purchase the wonderful hats seen in this video.

Since this is a Musical Monday Moves Me blog hop, here is the newest rap song by Al Kapone and JP.

As for the Aww Monday, we love old photos with Granddad!
My two oldest kids worked in the hat store when younger.

Address:
Mister Hats
113 South Highland St.
Memphis, TN 38111

Store Hours:
Monday - Saturday
10:00am - 6:00pm
Closed Sunday

And that's a RAP!

But if you came here for songs, here is Peace Train from Remember the Titans.

Here is another football movie tune. Let's Come On and Take a Free Ride with a song from Invisible.

Musical Monday Live at The Garden

My husband and I enjoyed another outdoor concert, Friday night.

The first band was called, Parmalee. I had never heard of this band named for their North Carolina town, but I knew some of their music. Here is "Take My Name."

Matt Thomas, the lead singer of Paralee, told a story about someone giving them a check for $11,000 to record their first four songs. When the check bounced, his mother took out a loan on her three-bedroom house to pay for it. Now, that he's made it big, he's paid off her house note and bought her a car. That was a good investment! Here is their first hit, Carolina, recorded thanks to his mom.

Next up was the band we came for, Train. I love how they start all of their concerts. They have the best intro!

Train played their new song. They said they'd play it over and over again until we liked it. Not needed. I liked it the first time I heard it!

They have a lot of great song hits, like "Drive By."

Train threw t-shirts into the audience, including one Pat Monahan put on for a few minutes while the band signed it. He also took a bunch of selfies with phones from the audience, and we hit multiple beachballs into the air. I was happy to be able to touch one!

Toward the end of the concert, Monahan said, "We used to walk off-stage and wait for everyone to applaud us back, but I'm too old for that sh*t; so, do you want to hear a few more?" Of course, we did!

By the way, he's 54 years old, which seems a lot younger than it used to.

I felt the air escape from my lungs as if I’d just been punched in the gut. My dad’s office was on the 80th floor of the North Tower. He was a heavy man who suffered from Diabetes. In his poor shape, I felt certain he’d have trouble climbing down eighty flights of stairs to leave the building. “Could he have taken the elevator down to the lower floors and gotten out?”

This resource is great for teaching about Patriot's Day. The story is engaging and contains high-level words to build vocabulary. The discussion questions, along with a research question, help students to build writing skills.

Awesome Blossoms

Six Sentence Story Extract

This week's six sentence writing prompt is Extract and I'm linking up with Denise at Girlie On The Edge Blog, where she hosts Six Sentence Stories.
"You want to extract an annoying, rotten orange stuck in your pipes and messing up the entire system?"
"That's rights. To make matters worse, it's covered in maggets."
"How did it get there?"
"Outside interference, but we are going through legal means to remove it."
"Good luck!"

Music Monday Moves Me with Animal Songs for Benny and an Aww Monday Moment

Just like I sing to Amber, I enjoy singing songs to my dog, Benny, too. I take songs and change the words. Unfortunately, I couldn't hold a tune even if you hot-glued it to my hands, so I'll have to post the actual songs. First up is a little ditty inwhich I sing, "Benny, Benny Boo, where are you?"
Next, is Benny and My Pets. You can guess what I'm going to post. Pets is plural because we used to have three pets. Unfortunately, Benny lost his two grandmotherly sisters early in 2022, so we adopted Amber.
Since the theme is animals, I put a frog in Elton John's song. Tee hee.
Third, here is an original, prize winning movie set to music, including "Puppy Love." What a treat! It was made during the pandemic and stars Benny as the pool boy. His beautiful sisters also had starring roles in The Bearded and the Restless.
And finally, here's a fourth because I've always sung this one to my dogs. If this isn't an Aww Monday, nothing is! Check out these adorable puppies in Harry Nilson's song.
Hey teachers, how about a set of dog logic puzzles for your class? If you look at the sudoku, Benny is the golden retriever puppy.
