The Things We Do for Kids

Once again we performed in our annual "Putting on the Hits." This yearly event raises funds for students to participate in an expensive field trip where students govern and operate a special city downtown. Each year, we teachers make total fools of ourselves when we get on stage and dance. This year we bopped to "Rockin' Robin." It was a lot easier than last year's "Thriller."

#AtoZ : Zits

Ever wonder how long people have been getting zits? They've been around for my entire life, yet I don't remember seeing historical photographs where pimples protruded from young noses.

 

Take Joan of Arc who died at age nineteen, yet not a blemish on her face. Surely she had at least as much stress as the teens of today, but no one ever sees pimples on her face.

Or how about King Tutankamum who also died at nineteen? Look at that face. Okay, it's black, cracked, and aged, but the skin is smooth. Where are the zits? Did he use ancient Clearasil? Wait a minute. What's that spot on his right cheek?

Nope, I didn't find historical pictures with acne, so I did a google search and BINGO!  Did you know that ancient Egyptian writings mention pharaohs with zits? So that's what they meant by the curse of boils in the Passover story! The pharaohs were covered in pimples.

Yep, zits have probably been annoying teenagers since the cavemen days.

"Doff, don't eat that greasy mammoth thigh or you'll get bumps on your face."

"Yes, Mother." (Rolls ancient eyes)

Factually, the word "acne" was invented in ancient Greece. As for the word zit, it popped up in the dictionary in 1966 with an "origin unknown" label. From that, the 60s brought us "zit-coms." Ie., sitcoms aimed at teens.

I first learned about zits in grade school when my brother complained about black heads. I didn't know what a black head meant, but when my friend Jean came over, I told her my brother had them. She didn't understand how my brother could have a black head and neither did I, but I learned. 

As I aged, I got my very own pimples. I especially remember the friendly zits that would pop up to say, "Hello" whenever a big event was on the horizon.

When it comes to zits, nothing beats this scene from Animal House. Enjoy.

I almost forgot. Tonight is Tuesday, so it's time for Wordless Wednesday. This week, it caught me off guard. I guess that's because I'm still buried with work. Since today is Super Tuesday, I'm going to show you a picture of my first choice candidate to lead our country. Not only is he smart and liberal, but he's also the hottest leader in the world!

What's that you say? Justin Trudeau is already the Prime Minister of Canada? Oh, dang! Well, maybe when he leaves office, he can move south and run our country. He wasn't born in America, but that doesn't seem to be an issue anymore. After all, Cruz was born in Canada . . . and Obama, they say he was born in Kenya. Bwaaaaa!

Wordless Wednesday - Let Sleeping Dogs Lie

#MM Stressed Out!

This has been the month from you know where. I have gazillion and one IEPs to write as well as screenings through referrals. Not to mention, I am expecting a drop in evaluation some time soon. We have had snow, inservice, and meetings on Fridays. Not having my full Friday puts me way behind because this is my day to catch up on lesson planning, etc. 

All week long, I arrived at work at least an hour early and left over two hours late. Working from 7:45 - 6:30 is too long of a day. This whole business is leaving me with a lot of stress, and no time to keep up with my blog and other bloggers. It has even affected my sleep. I will be better once they drop in on me, and I don't have to worry about every lesson being evaluation perfect. I put high standards on everything I do, which makes for a hard road right about now.

One "nice-ity" I've had is this cute little song, by Twenty One Pilots, that I keep hearing on the radio. It seems like a perfect fit right about now.
