#GBE2: Scorned Blogger Breaks Trust After 40 Years

When I was in fifth grade, my best friend Kate was quite beautiful and as a result, just about every fellow in class had a crush on her. Being her best friend, the boys assumed I knew which lucky guy she liked back. I did. She had indeed trusted me with this secret and I promised I wouldn't tell.

Shortly after that, the boys attacked me on the playground and pinned my arm behind my back in an attempt to get me to reveal her secret. I still did not tell. So imagine the horror I felt when Kate had another secret, but said, "I'm not going to tell you because you'll tell everyone."

I was mortified! How dare her! Although they tortured me, I kept her trust. Now that approximately forty years have gone by, and Kate disappeared never to show up at a high school reunion, I owe it to her to break that trust and tell ALL of you bloggy friends Kate's secret. Ha, ha, ha!

Famous Fish!

Kate liked Fish. If you don't know who Fish is, rent the movie Fargo and watch the airport scene. Our dear classmate grew up to be an actor and he is the fellow working the airport toll booth when the criminal drives through. I was so thankful Fish didn't get shot because that dude in the car was crazy! I understand Fish is in a new movie called Mayor Cupcake. I must rent it. As for who Kate is: I haven't seen her in any movies, but I'll let you know when I do.

If you like my post please push here to vote for my blog on the Picket Fence. Thanks!

How unfair can children be!

Kate deserves that!! Acting like that after you kept her trust! (Fish, huh?).

Alas - none of the boys could have ever had Kate since her heart belonged to Fish.

Eh, we were kids. I'd be nuts if I held onto every misjustice in my life. I wish she'd show up for a reunion because I'd love to see her.

The guy's real name is Pete, and he has rather large eyes, so the boys called him Fish Eyes or Fish. The name stuck, and hopefully he embraced it. I never asked him what he thought of his nickname. He's a wonderful person who starred in all of our high school plays and now teaches acting at a college.

I think its genius and hilarious that you outed her on your blog so many years later! hahaha! Love it!

LOL - Kate and Fish - too funny. Sorry you were tortured, but it is a good friend who keeps a secret for 40 years.
It wouldn't let me vote for you - I probably voted less than a day ago. I'll try again in the morning.

Ha! I'm guessing that Kate would be fine with you telling all now. ;O)

You're a great friend. Kate not so much. Just saying.

Have a terrific day. :)

I guess this isn't the Fish that had that show named after him. . .I think he was on Barney Miller and would be a tad older than you. Probably double.

Secrets like this seem amusing, especially when this much time has passed.

Whoever Kate is, she would probably be laughing at this blog if she saw it! 40 year silly secrets are fun to reveal and this was very cute!
Loved it.

My grade school crush still lives with his mother. *phew* I dodged a bullet there! You are a very loyal friend to have kept her secret so long, I'm sorry she didn't know who she had in her corner way back when.

Kate probably didn't show up at your reunion because she feels fat and old after 40 years. Well...that's the reason I missed all my class reunions except for the first one. Then someone posted pics from the last reunion and guess what??? Everybody is fat and old. LOL

Funny blog! Love it!

Thanks for all the great comments. I'm sure Kate could careless who I tell now. A few weeks after she told me, she didn't like him anymore anyway. Ahhh, young crushes.

You showed Kate, huh! Now we all know she had a crush on Fish. Great post.

This is too funny--you were a good friend to suffer like that for her --and not betray her trust. Boy--she sure wasn't nice about it was she? Well...we all know KATE's Secret--but I have a question--who did YOU have a crush on? I promise not to tell :) Jenn
