Writer's Post: Atmosphere

This week's Writer's Post topic is "Atmosphere."
Well, okay.

Do you know where this is?

I remember the first time I heard the words, "Information Super Highway." I tried to picture a road of electricity zipping through a black void. As the eighties buzzed with talk of a future with information instantly flashing across the globe, my double-fisted-sized brain couldn't comprehend exactly what this invention meant. After all, who knew our
technological world would mean sending a laugh to folks on the other side of the planet? How could I have ever met a person from England, Germany, or keep up with my friend in New Zealand on a teacher's salary? Oh, I forgot. Our being over paid has caused the world's economic problems.

I always loved a good sci-fi movie or flipping on Lost in Space--the best choice out of our five TV stations. Looking back, Will Robinson's robot was as sophisticated as a box of Tinker Toys; on a scale of one to ten, Captain Kirk's uniform is right up their with the coolness of the Village People; and the scenes from Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) look fake. Don't laugh, it wasn't a comedy.

Future generations will look back and think how primitive we were back in 2011… or maybe not, since the world is gonna end in 2012…unless…of course, the cartoon below is true.

lmbo. Again. The super highway is nothing like I envisioned either! I remember saying, "I'm not ever getting into a home computer! It's bad enough that I have to punch keys all day at work!" I worked in a bank in those days and did data entry set up. Fancy talk for typing through a floppy! lol You just rock! Tweeting this one for sure!

That's a mother of a motherboard. I was confused right along with just about everyone else.

I love your sense of humor. Just in case I've not mentioned that.

Have a terrific day. :)

Your pictures remind me of Disney's movie Tron with all those lights and lines. It never ceases to amaze me how many people are constantly banging on about the world coming to an end. They are usually wrong, and the day they aren't there won't be a thing we can do about it! So why worry about tomorrow, when there is so much life to live today? Great post!

I remember when Tron (the original) came out, my father, who is and electrical engineer, shook his head and said, "People have very strange ideas about what happens inside a computer."

Once every 5 years smb must mention some Apocalypse...I doubt it will arrive too soon but it's true the Earth is really sick of us, so there might be some unwanted reactions towards destructive humans...
Lovely post Joyce :)

Information super highway, I was right there along side you (literally) confused in the early 80's. It is awesome that we can stay in touch so far away. BTW - I love that cartoon of the Mayans.

I spent many years in Tech, and saw the changes as they came about. Still amazed. I love the old sci-fi,still catching it when I can. We have the old Lost In Space on DVD. What gets me is how dated Star Wars looks now.

The super highway seems so long ago.... digital technology have progressed in lightning speed. I wonder how it would be like in 10 years' time.

I liked it better when life was simpler. I think I was born at the wrong time. I really don't want an Iphone, Ipad or I-anything. I could do on I like my laptop and it is more versatile. As for my cellphone...well I use it for what it was intended...a phone. And for emergency purposes only. I am on the phone all day at work, I don't want to come home and read my emails on it or watch a movie. I'm all for technology, but sometimes I need a break. Thanks for sharing!

Dear Joyce, We did have some good shows on T.V. when we were little ones!! You named a few, of course don't forget Twilight Zone!! or Alfred Hitchcock! Oh, I could go on... Of course, we did use our imaginations a lot. I agree do agree with Susan's comment. Well, have a beautiful and blessed weekend. Catherine

Yeah, it's hard to keep up with it all. Funny, as always.

As always, I've enjoyed your take on this week's topic. It is sheer brilliance when you think of the genius it took to get us from there to here technologically.

And the cartoon at the end makes me chuckle--because I've always said, "At some point they had to get tired of making more years on the calendar--or they just ran out of room!"

LOL...Great post, Jenn.

Awesome, Joyce. LOL.... You're funny! Actually, the world is supposed to end Friday, the 21st. Yep - that crazy preacher has recalculated. The good news is that those of us who will die will die peacefully...ROFL

Thanks for the comments. I hope people have gotten smarter and won't give away their life savings or kid's college tuition because of some crazy preacher.
