It's Thursday night, which means time to post on Catch My Words. I could post about my week. First off, in our city, a large gang of teenagers brutally attacked
Kroger employees for entertainment. These sickos laughed and smiled while kicking the foo out of defenseless strangers. Maybe my soap box about lousy parenting would be appropriate, but even good parents sometimes find problems with their kids. Such as the memorial service I attended on Tuesday for a brilliant and handsome former
student of mine––who had two excellent parents. Although he was certainly smart enough to keep up with Sheldon Cooper of Big Bang Theory fame, and would have enjoyed a molecular discussion, too, he died from a heroine overdose. No. I don't want to write anymore about these sad situations, nor the e-mail from the superintendent about 220 teachers being excessed out of jobs, four of them from our school. How many kids can we squeeze into one classroom? So basically, it was a sucky week.
Those who have followed me for some time know that I'm typically not one to write downer posts. So let's talk about small stuff that fits better with my humor blog. This morning, my sandal broke, but luckily I keep old tennis
shoes in my closet for kickboxing. I put them on and looked tasteless and tacky all day, but it's better than being barefoot. Little did I realize, these shoes are messed up, too. Now this, I can deal with.

Bryson threw a punch, but I ducked
and then body-slammed him into the wall.
“Way to go,
Benito!” The stranger outside the window cheered and clapped.
I let go of
Bryson and stared at the man outside. Is he talking to me? My heart sped up as his bug eyes tore through me.
“Benito?” Bryson laughed. “Is your name Be-ni-to?
“No.
I’m Ben.” I stared out the window and shook my head as though I could clear
away all of my confusing thoughts with a quick shake. "Just Ben." “Benito?” Bryson laughed. “Is your name Be-ni-to?

Dance All Night
I remember the fun I had back at MIZZOU when I participated in a 24 hour dance marathon to raise money for charity. Now, my daughter is at it, and I hope you'll support her. I also hope she doesn't get cranky and kick any of her friends out of the car on the way home, like I did. Sorry, Barry.
Anyway, Erica is participating in the Knight-Thon, which is UCF's largest student run philanthropy project to support the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in Orlando. Erica and I would be thrilled it you would donate to help the kids.
Since Erica is a senior and missed participating in this event for three years, her goal is to make up for the years missed by raising $400. To donate, all you do is click on the link. It's easy and keeps her beautiful smile going strong.

#MM New Stuff
Here are some fun songs that I've recently heard on the radio.
Taylor Swift just released "Shake It Off" about two weeks ago.

Weekend Writing Warriors 8/31/14
It's time for another Weekend Writing Warriors!
Here's another snippet from my YA manuscript, BEING BENITO CARLEFFA.
√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√√
I swung my backpack over one shoulder
and then noticed Bryson shoving Austin. The big guy towered a full foot over
little Austin and could have easily fit his victim into one of his pant legs.
“Leave him alone, Bryson.” I stepped
close enough to see three blackheads surrounding a red splotch on Bryson’s
cheek. He must have picked something open, again.
Bryson’s chest rose and fell as he curled his hands into
tight fists. “Always snooping in other people’s business, aren’t you, tool?”
“Just
looking out for my friend, douche.”

Life
I looked up while grinding watermelon rind and saw a strange man in my kitchen. Oh, yeah, I'm married! Do you ever go through times when you get so busy that you barely see your spouse? Me neither. But he's been working late. I didn't even see him one night or the next morning. I even wondered if he came home, but I saw a few tell tale signs, like the dogs not jumping on me to eat.
Later, Mitchell told me I spoke to him when he got in. I don't remember. One of these days, he's going to quit practicing law and do it right. That means, not having to work such long hours. Don't worry. He's not having an affair. After twenty-eight years of marriage, he knows if he did, I'd just hop in bed between him and his mistress. After one night of my snoring, she'd dump him.
Then again, I stayed at school until almost seven on Tuesday night; however, part of my delay was due to the gym teacher starting a kick boxing class. He wanted me to kick him in the knee, but I couldn't do it. I might miss the knee and keep this young man from becoming a father.
I worked out with the thirty-somethings and the twenty-nine-year-old, and the used to be kid who jumped rope with my kids before she grew up to be a teacher. I should have warned her. I'm in trouble when it's time to spar these young adults. At least I'm there. Who knows, the Taekwondo red belt from my youth might come in handy. If nothing else, I can still do a loud k'ihap.
