Musical Monday: Yes
On those rare moments when I clean my house, I like to turn on the classic rock television station and listen to my favorite old tunes. I recently enjoyed this jewel that I hadn't heard in ages. Although I've been a Chess player since the age of five and am currently a sponsor of the Chess team, I just now made the obvious connection of this song to the game. Interesting what we discover when we actually listen to words.

Kennedy Vs. Obama
Fifty years ago yesterday, John F Kennedy was shot. Now that wasn't nice, but at least he was treated a lot better than our current president before his death. Between the Cuban Missile Crisis and Civil Rights, he made some unpopular decisions; however, if you watch the old clips of the president speaking, everyone stood up and applauded for him, even those from the opposing party. What happened to the respect that comes with the job of President? If one doesn't respect the man, one should at least respect the office.

The opposing party and the public's treatment of Barach Obama shows an overall decline of good manners in this country. Perhaps this stems from reality TV. One can watch shows where people make crass comments about others and embarrass them on national TV. This teaches our young that it is okay not to treat others with dignity. This lack of good manners has seeped all the way up to the oval office. Or is horrible treatment of Mr. Obama due to his skin color? If that's the case, back in the early sixties, being Catholic, like President Kennedy, was also discriminated against and JFK was our first Catholic president. Yet still, the opposing party and the public treated him with the dignity of one who is in the office of US president. I'm not talking about disagreeing with his politics. That's expected. I'm talking about giving him the ability to speak without interruption or the standing applause as he steps behind the podium. One can disagree with his politics all one wants, but treat him with the respect of one who is the president of our country.
Several years ago, I was thoroughly appalled when I saw George and Laura Bush paper dolls on a store shelf. Our president and first lady were depicted in their underwear. That's not presidential and should not have been marketed! I'm all for free speech and expression, but there needs to be self imposed limits of what is proper or not. Presidents being sold in their underwear shows a disrespect for the man in office.
Although I may be dating myself, I remember a time when we got dressed up to fly on an airplane or go to see a play. With formal clothes comes formal behavior. Maybe we need to go back to dressing better; however, that doesn't stop the suit and tie yielding idiots in congress. So scratch that idea, too. Did you know that the words pro and con are opposites? This means that the opposite of progress is congress.
Progress is good, yet with every two steps forward, we seem to be taking one step back.

#GBE2: Conversation Without Dialogue
Peering at the multiple entries for this week's GBE2 Challenge, I figured I needed to add something fun. So here goes a goofy interaction between two strangers in close quarters.
All week long, the lady has invaded my peaceful home, snatched one of my brethren, and stuffed him into a plastic bag to go God knows where. So here I wait, all by my lonesome, swimming in a huge jar while wondering when I'll have someone to talk to. I figure she'll be back tonight, which shouldn't be too awful. Rumor has it one of our ancestors moped in the back of the fridge for years. I'd rather die.
The light glows and my bath water swirls like a mini-hurricane until her meaty paw grips my tip and plunges me into a plastic bag. At least she didn't pierce me with a fork. The thought of that turns me greener as I find myself growing limp in the zipped tight baggie with no air or juice. Next, I'm wedged between some round, fat,
green thing and a Tupperware container filled with something leafy. The round pest rolls my way and forces me up against the container. My face is smashed, so I push back, but it's pointless. She's much heavier than me and oblivious to my pushing. Maybe I'd do better to slide beside the Tupperware. So I kick the round thing and roll as far away as possible.
What's this? Boy is she dense. The round blob is rolling after me. Doesn't she get it? I don't want to be trapped under her massive body weight. I hate her to the core!

My Mouse
My mouse isn't working well. When I direct it to go left, it sometimes doesn't want to move. I'll click it, but it won't feel my tap, so I have to push it hard. Once today, it got kind of nutty and did a shaky-wiggle thing all by itself.
I had a tech person open my computer and look at my mouse. Other than a few dog hairs falling off of the battery, things looked pretty normal. He couldn't even find moisture from the little bit of tea that cascaded onto the mouse last week.
I think I'll try giving it some cheese.
That ought to do it!

#GBE2: Only the Ending
With so many stories, I had a tough time deciding which ending to post for this week's GBE2 prompt to end a story and leave your readers wondering what happened to get to this point. Here is a little gem I call, Beam Me Up From the Girls' Bathroom.
Celia whispered to Macy. Macy whispered
to Celia, and I was stuck waiting for the answer that could ruin my life.
“Fine.”
Celia stomped toward her desk with Macy tagging along. “You win, creep!” She yelled
across the room.
Just
then Logan, the coolest kid in school, said, “That’s right! My grandma took me
in the girls’ bathroom.” The excited boys gathered around him.
“What
does it look like?”
“You’re
so lucky!”
“I
wish my grandma would take me there.”
“My grandma takes me in the girls’ bathroom
all the time,” I said.

Musical Monday: World Series Fun
Let's go Cards!
I have found
memories growing up in St. Louis and watching Lou Brock steal bases. Ozzie
Smith was a phenomenon back when with an incredible following. He asked my dad
and uncles to do a television ad for their furniture and appliance
store. All he wanted as payment was a refrigerator.
What a game last night! It was the bottom of the ninth with two guys
on deck and one out when a grounder slides between first and second. One runner is out at home
but when the catcher goes for the double play, he over throws the ball. The
third baseman falls and raises his legs tripping runner Allen Craig
onto the ground. He gets up and is barely tagged out at home but is called SAFE
due to obstruction at third base. The Cardinals win game three of the World
Series 5-4! Unfortunately, tonight doesn't look as good for my Cards, but it's
not over yet.
I can't believe they said, "No!"
Below is a link to a great clip from the Boston and
St. Louis Symphony Orchestras; however, I can't get it to load, so you'll have
to link there.
Finally, here's a fun Pepsi commercial. Enjoy!

GBE2's Three Story Challenge
GBE2’s
weekly prompt is to write three five sentence stories. Each story must be
independent of the other stories. Sure. I can do that.
Spiderman
From
the television set, Spiderman pointed his fingers and blasted the bad guy with his
sticky web.
“Hollywood has it so wrong,” Spiderman
said.
Spiderman stood and turned his back to
Mary Jane and then sent multiple spider threads out of his ass with a loud fart.
“Have you ever seen a spider spin a web from its fingers?”
The Fog
Faint street
lamps glow through the window of the office complex as Christopher yanks his work out of the printer and slides the papers into his briefcase. At
half past ten, he knows he must head for home where his wife will question his
late hours, again. Outside his office, a misty fog settles over the desolate parking lot, so
Christopher taps his remote and is soothed by the flashing lights of
his black Eos. As he curves around a bend of the deserted back street, something swoops out of the fog and splatters his windshield with the
crimson blood of a fresh kill. With his heart pounding in his ears, Christopher
slams his breaks and gingerly steps out of the car to see what lifeless animal will stain the road; nothing.
Reincarnation
After
standing in this forest for 237 years, my brittle arms grow tired of holding leaves that will only dry out and tumble to the solid Earth below. We've seen many of our friends die from the ax of a lumberjack, but I do not fear him for he will provide me with a new beginning. The wisp of a man dragging his sharp tool toward me can't be more than twenty and hardly seems like the executioner I've dreamed of for the past thirty-seven years—the
time since I decided that I’d lived too long. The kid continually swings his ax
into my trunk until I topple onto the rain-soaked ground. Now that I’ve been reincarnated
into Fifty Shades of Gray, life has become more interesting than
watching trees grow in the woods.

Unknown college student Mark Zuckerberg launched Facebook in February, 2004 as a
social networking site for Harvard students. Who would have thought it would spread from college students to those in high school, and eventually to middle school tweens? But wait, now your dog has a page along with your mother and grandmother. So either you learn how to block unwanted stalkers or keep it clean. Here's the filter my kids must have purchased because I never see anything inappropriate on their sites, even when I check out their pages in that stalking mom kind of way.
