At our wedding reception, my brother warned my husband to be wary about what I did to my first love. I tore my love into pieces then cried at the departure, but it wasn't totally my fault. Being the youngest of four, I tended to listen to the bad advice of older siblings. He who shall not be named told me to rip my love so that I could spread its joy around and have plenty.
Waaaa! Blanky. **sniff** I tore it into multiple pieces then rummaged through the scraps for one smidgen large enough to rub against my nose as I sucked my thumb. That was a dirty trick to play on an unsuspecting toddler, but not to worry.
My mom paid $2 for a stuffed monkey at the grocery store, and he replaced my torn blanky. I named him Micky after Micky Dolenz from the Monkees because Micky was so cute! He also made me laugh as he banged his drums and did silly stuff on TV. Everyone else was in love with Davy Jones, not me. I liked Micky.
I also had a little crush on Robin from the Batman show . . . until he took off his mask. :p . . . He was ugly underneath, so it was time to forget about television and focus on real boys.

Did the monkey hold a banana and could you stick its thumb in its mouth? I think I had that same monkey. My grandmother gave it to me.
Micky held a partially peeled banana which I would stick in his mouth. He had a plastic face and white plastic shoes. I think he came with a red ribbon around his neck that disappeared with a lot of loving. Also, my Micky was skinny, probably from being hugged so much. I wonder what happened to him. It seems like one day he just disappeared.
You were not alone in your love of Mickey Dolenz ;0) Davy was far too cute for my tastes, even if he was a Brit and had been in Corrie (Coronation Street). Maybe you should have a rummage. Mickey monkey could be hiding in a suitcase or box in someone's attic! Great post *hugs*

Simply lovely :)
It's been many years since I saw The monkeys show. Your Mickey is cute, even if he is only a head :-P
What a nasty trick! The monkey was cute, though. :-)
I liked Mickey best too. I like real boys even better.
Have a terrific day. :)
My mom loved Mickey Dolenz from the Monkees. I loved watching the Monkees on TV and can see why.
I remember watching the Monkeys. I loved that song and would sing it constantly :) Also had a brother who played a few dirty tricks on me too. It's not easy being the youngest.
Thanks for stopping by my blog, always good to see a new face
I had a crush on Mickey too, because my cousin already 'claimed' Davy. But I agree, real boys are better.
My cousin had a stuffed monkey like that, I always wanted one...got the stuffed dog instead..but hey...I loved my pooch. Oh and I love that you named your monkey after Micky Dolenz. I sure loved the Monkeys!! So cool. Cheers, Jenn.
Oh cute!! I loved the Monkees when I was a kid. But I was always partial to a cute boy that could sing :)

So cute!
Happy WW.
I played too. Mine are here and here.
well that was kind of a dirty trick to play on their sister! At least you found a new love!
I had a crush on Davy Jones, though I never pursued him because he was too short for me ;) http://myheartblogstoyou.blogspot.com/2011/06/one-moms-first-love.html
I remember that monkey, though we were too poor for me to have one.
I used to have a monkey very similar to this when I was little, though I can't remember what it looked like exactly. I'm pretty sure it had blue overalls and a yellow shirt.
LOVED this!!!
This is really cute! You made me laugh!
LOL, I had quite the thing for Batman....Robin was always a bit scrawny for my liking!
At my 1960s size, Robin was huge and Batman was intimidating.
Cute!!!
I will not even touch on the homoerotic themes between Batman and Robin. I get the feeling this isn't the time or place. lol! ;-)
Cute story!
@Eccentricity I must have missed that one. Being a six year old viewer, I never noticed . . . and still don't.
Thanks to all for the posts.
Oh my well, yes that brought back memories!! Great post!!

Ya know, Micky the Monkey looks a lot like Micky Dolenz :)
I had it for Mike. Not sure why. The voice? The hat? The laid back southern attitude? I caught them late of course, as they're my grandparents' age. Started watching reruns on Nickelodeon when I was 6 and they've been my favorite band ever since. You can imagine my shock when I saw them in concert in 2001 and they weren't the young things I grew up with on TV! I've seen Mickey on Broadway, Davy in a solo concert and opened for a Peter Tork concert. Thanks for the post!!!
