Theme Thursday: Mysterious Pepper Fun

sweet male
While shopping at Kroger, I learned that peppers have sexes: four bumps on the bottom is a female pepper, which is firm and good for cooking, while the three bump variety means a sweet male. I never knew vegetables were sexual beings. Of course, the way they dance around the vine, it shouldn't surprise anyone to learn of magic in the field.

So the females have more bumps and curves. Hm? Furthermore, girl peppers carry more seeds that make her
bloated female
heavier, kinda like that time of the month, although they are permanently bloated.

I also have to wonder if sweet males like to hang on vines with other sweet male peppers or do all peppers have fun together? If the males and females hang together, is it like one big vegetable orgy?

Every time I think I've heard it all, I learn more. I guess some peppers grow red after hanging around with their bumpy bottoms showing.

Woo baby! Wanna hang on my vine?
You'll never think of peppers the same way, will you?

So it seems there's not much difference between us and peppers. I better not show this post to my husband, I bet I'll end up being be called a sexy bell pepper for the rest of my life :) (it sounds funnier in Romanian, we've got a funny word for bell peppers)

Well, that's a fun bit of trivia! I will probably lean more towards the males from now on. I hate all those seeds in the females.

How fascinating, I'm also now wondering about other veg and what difference it makes. I'm trying to grow some peppers from seed after another blog inspired me, so I suppose the female seeds could be better? or a mix of the two and I am showing my gardening ignorance, but now I need to know. I'll spend the next few hours looking at the sex of veg and boring the life out of hubby, and I bet I never grow one pepper, lol.Isn't life grand:)

this post is a true testament that you do learn something new each day. I have thought of many comments that could be said (all of them good but iffy) so I'll just say this was a funny post.

Really? You aren't pulling our legs? I wonder which kind of peppers Peter Piper picked?

Well I had no idea. I just had a very sweet pepper today, so I guess it was a male. The evidence is all gone now, though, so I can't be sure.

No. I won't. They do kind of look like curvy bottoms.

Hugs and chocolate,

No, I will never again view a pepper with innocence, not now that I'm in the know. ;)

This was so funny and when I was looking at the pics I kept thinking how they really did look like someone's bottom. I have heard of this before but have definitely forgotten about it. Plus peppers are not even a vegetable but a fruit. We were taught in Botany class that the plants with seeds are fruits and the ones without are vegetables. You know that tomatoes and cucumbers are fruits even though people think they are veggies. And if we follow that logic then we call so many fruits vegetables instead of fruits. Squash are technically in the fruit family but we think of them as a vegetable. Maybe people would eat more of them if they thought they were eating fruit. But then again what does a watermelon become if it is a seedless watermelon. I guess they become non-producing fruit and will we eventually have no watermelon seeds anymore. Okay, just kidding because they have to have a seed to grow a seedless watermelon.

Nature is probably one of the most mysterious things out there and also one of the most interesting. But then again it is also probably one of the scariest things out there. Have you ever looked up "sink holes"? After seeing pictures of them and with there being no know reason for why they are there gave me nightmares and seeing that recent one where the man sank into one while sleeping sure did not help. Okay, I need to stop freaking out about some things but they are mysterious.

Thanks for such a fun post for this weeks Theme Thursday. I hope you have a fruit filled weekend. This is definitely the best time of year to buy fruit.

God bless.
