Summer Fun for Kids

Here in the south, we've been out of school for about a week. Before you get too green with envy, please note that teachers started this school year in July. Luckily, the powers that be got some sense, and we won't see our classrooms until August this next school year.

Being a lover of summer, I never understood the concept of, "I'M BORED!" over the summer; however, we all know kids who yearn for things to do. Why not send your kids off with my Boredom Busters at the end of the school year? Once they take up your text books, you can even keep them happy with these fun puzzles to challenge minds. If you're a parent, here's something to keep your child challenged and entertained.

This booklet is for young minds in grades 1 - 3. It contains three summer themed logic puzzles, a sedoku, a maze, and a quote puzzle. It is targeted to gifted and talented students, and I've marked the price down to $3.95. That's a real bargain since I sell my puzzles individually for $1 a piece.

This booklet is for those older intellectually gifted kids in grades 3 - 5. Inside, you will find three logic problems, a sedoku, a quote puzzle, and a funny story, "Beware of Cooties," that is guaranteed to bring a chuckle. This, too, has a reduced price of $4.25.

So how about it?
I'd love for you to stop by and check out
these products or others at my store.

If logic is your thing, my store is loaded with it!

#WW Sephora

On a recent trip to Sephora, I noticed
some products with interesting names.

I tried the sample, but didn't feel a thing. It must have been defective. I wonder if one should return this product if unfulfilled.

It wasn't.

I once had a parent who liked to use big words to show how he was so smart. When requested at an IEP meeting, he told us, "I cannot attend the IEP tryst." It must be because I didn't wear this makeup.

End of School Craziness

Perhaps you've seen the owls circulating Facebook.
I am totally the owl on the right; so to celebrate all of us losing our minds, I've created a logic problem about us at the end of the year. It's called Tired Teachers, and it might give your third through fifth grade students a chuckle when they read about what exhausted teachers do in May.
You may purchase this little gem for just $1
Plus it comes complete with an answer key-a necessity because let's face it,
We're Tired!
If you like logic, please check out my store. I have
plenty of problems to challenge bright kids.

#MM Marty O'Reilly & The Old Soul Orchestra

An old family friend called to tell us she is managing a band and would be heading to Memphis for a one night's gig at Lafayette Music Room. This is an old Memphis restaurant where many of the great ones got their start. Billy Joel, Barry Manilow, Kansas, and Kiss all performed there before becoming famous, so you can see the variety.

The band we housed is called Marty O'Reilly & the Old Soul Orchestra. Being a Tuesday night, we had planned on staying for one set and heading home around 9:30. The band was so good that we ended up staying until after the crowd demanded another song at closing.

Us with Yakov Smirnoff's daughter.
Here we are with Natasha. As a little girl, she was friends with our daughter Judy. We haven't seen her since the kids were little. As a side note, her dad is a famous comedian. The entire family has dad's fun personality, and they are great to be around.

The lead singer of the band left the shirt he performed in at our house. It's a nice shirt, and he wanted it back, but we decided to sell it on Ebay instead. Tee hee. Just kidding. Marty's shirt is in the mail to California.

Marty had a funny habit of playing from the floor every now and then. I thought it was cute and repeatedly tried and failed to capture a photo. Every time I'd think about it and get my phone out, he'd stand up. This photo is Natasha's.

Now for the part you've all been waiting for. Here is a sample of the music from this up and coming band. If you like them, you may download a free tune at:  www.MartyOreilly.com, or you can follow them on Facebook at:  Facebook.com/martyoreillymusic

#WW: Three Degrees Above Zero

My youngest has joined the ranks of her college
educated siblings. We have no more children in school.

With an Event Management Degree from the Rosen College
at the University of Central Florida,
Erica is now prepared to plan the best parties, ever.

Do you know anyone looking for a wonderful event planner?

At one time our kids did not have college degrees,
but now we are three degrees above zero.

Don't Mess With Psychologists

See that clock winding down at the side of my blog. Summer vacation is approaching quickly, and I can't wait. This has been quite a year. Not only have I taught, but I've also been up to my neck referring kids for psychological testing for the gifted program at my school. In Tennessee, bright kids are sheltered under the special education umbrella and it's been raining paperwork all year. I have one IEP meeting left and no one else to be tested at the moment.

Testing has changed quite a bit over the years. Back in 1925, when
Dogfish
my dad entered kindergarten, he had to take a test with a psychologist to see what class to put him in. Some lady held up heads and bodies of various animals and told him to match them. My dad thought the test was soooo stupid that he decided to have "fun" with the psychologist. He mixed the animal heads with various non-matching bodies, all the while chuckling to himself. The joke was on Dear Old Dad when he spent his first day of school in a class filled with rockers and droolers. The moral of the story: Don't mess with psychologists.
