Musical Monday: Brandon Walker
I eat Chinese food on
Christmas and go to the movie theater, too; because there ain't much else to do
on Christmas, when you're a Jew.

Back Seat Barrier by Kurgo
I was asked to review the back seat barrier
by Kurgo
This material wall was designed to keep overly affectionate dogs from jumping into a driver's lap and causing a horrific accident. Does it work? Actually it depends on the dog.
We first tried this product with our two dogs on a trip to the dog park. The installation was reported to be easy, and maybe would have been had we not let the directions slip out of the box unnoticed.
"Where are the directions?" my husband asked.
"We didn't get any," I said, only to find the slip of paper on the floor after we struggled to install it. Recommendation number one, print the directions on the box.
After we installed the dog barrier, it didn't quite hold as tightly as the one in the photo, but it provided a good barrier for Honey Bear and Millie. Although Millie typically does not venture into the front seat, Honey Bear likes to. With the dog fence, she could lean her head over for a pat but not become an accident provoking nuisance. So on a long trip with a dog like Honey Bear, I would strongly recommend this product; however, this is not a good idea for large, active puppies like my grand dog Mowgli.
Since Judy had a long drive ahead of her from Memphis to Ann Arbor, Michigan, we gave her the dog gate to keep her little trouble maker in the backseat. The traveling crew waited until Nashville to install it, since they had to drop off Daniel. Next, Daniel struggled with installing the dog gate, even though he had the directions available and is of the twenty-something generation, meaning he typically doesn't have trouble installing anything.
The gate was not as wonderful for Mowgli. Being the active puppy he is, he wouldn't take "No" for an answer and continually jumped on it and tried to get over the gate, creating a dangerous situation for the dog. Judy worried he'd be injured with his attempts to hop over it, so she took it down.
In conclusion, this could be a great product for a mature large dog on a long trip or a small dog, but I wouldn't recommend it for large puppies.
Check it out yourself and see if it's right for your dog.

Musical Monday: Adam Sandler
Christmas
Dolly at Monday Music Moves Me has asked for Christmas music for the rest of
the year. Although I like some holiday tunes, it’s not exactly a prompt for me.
None-the-less, here’s an Adam Sandler selection to explain why you won’t be
singing Silent Night on this blog. Better late than never, our holiday has
passed, but I’ll still give Adam Sandler his turn.

Happy Birthday to Me
Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na.
Today's my birthday.
Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na.
Happy birthday to me.
Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na.
Getting old feels like crap.
Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na, Na.
But it's better than a dirt nap.
Bwa, Bwa, Bwa, Bwa, Bwa, Bwaaa
And if I close my eyes and make a wish, will we get to start
the weekend early?
Yes we do! School has been canceled today due to inclement weather (that hasn't hit us, yet).
Yes we do! School has been canceled today due to inclement weather (that hasn't hit us, yet).
Don't I look great for eighty-two?

Musical Monday: Yes
On those rare moments when I clean my house, I like to turn on the classic rock television station and listen to my favorite old tunes. I recently enjoyed this jewel that I hadn't heard in ages. Although I've been a Chess player since the age of five and am currently a sponsor of the Chess team, I just now made the obvious connection of this song to the game. Interesting what we discover when we actually listen to words.

Kennedy Vs. Obama
Fifty years ago yesterday, John F Kennedy was shot. Now that wasn't nice, but at least he was treated a lot better than our current president before his death. Between the Cuban Missile Crisis and Civil Rights, he made some unpopular decisions; however, if you watch the old clips of the president speaking, everyone stood up and applauded for him, even those from the opposing party. What happened to the respect that comes with the job of President? If one doesn't respect the man, one should at least respect the office.

JFK with his Adorable Grandson |
The opposing party and the public's treatment of Barach Obama shows an overall decline of good manners in this country. Perhaps this stems from reality TV. One can watch shows where people make crass comments about others and embarrass them on national TV. This teaches our young that it is okay not to treat others with dignity. This lack of good manners has seeped all the way up to the oval office. Or is horrible treatment of Mr. Obama due to his skin color? If that's the case, back in the early sixties, being Catholic, like President Kennedy, was also discriminated against and JFK was our first Catholic president. Yet still, the opposing party and the public treated him with the dignity of one who is in the office of US president. I'm not talking about disagreeing with his politics. That's expected. I'm talking about giving him the ability to speak without interruption or the standing applause as he steps behind the podium. One can disagree with his politics all one wants, but treat him with the respect of one who is the president of our country.
Several years ago, I was thoroughly appalled when I saw George and Laura Bush paper dolls on a store shelf. Our president and first lady were depicted in their underwear. That's not presidential and should not have been marketed! I'm all for free speech and expression, but there needs to be self imposed limits of what is proper or not. Presidents being sold in their underwear shows a disrespect for the man in office.
Although I may be dating myself, I remember a time when we got dressed up to fly on an airplane or go to see a play. With formal clothes comes formal behavior. Maybe we need to go back to dressing better; however, that doesn't stop the suit and tie yielding idiots in congress. So scratch that idea, too. Did you know that the words pro and con are opposites? This means that the opposite of progress is congress.
Progress is good, yet with every two steps forward, we seem to be taking one step back.

#GBE2: Conversation Without Dialogue
Peering at the multiple entries for this week's GBE2 Challenge, I figured I needed to add something fun. So here goes a goofy interaction between two strangers in close quarters.
All week long, the lady has invaded my peaceful home, snatched one of my brethren, and stuffed him into a plastic bag to go God knows where. So here I wait, all by my lonesome, swimming in a huge jar while wondering when I'll have someone to talk to. I figure she'll be back tonight, which shouldn't be too awful. Rumor has it one of our ancestors moped in the back of the fridge for years. I'd rather die.
The light glows and my bath water swirls like a mini-hurricane until her meaty paw grips my tip and plunges me into a plastic bag. At least she didn't pierce me with a fork. The thought of that turns me greener as I find myself growing limp in the zipped tight baggie with no air or juice. Next, I'm wedged between some round, fat,
green thing and a Tupperware container filled with something leafy. The round pest rolls my way and forces me up against the container. My face is smashed, so I push back, but it's pointless. She's much heavier than me and oblivious to my pushing. Maybe I'd do better to slide beside the Tupperware. So I kick the round thing and roll as far away as possible.
What's this? Boy is she dense. The round blob is rolling after me. Doesn't she get it? I don't want to be trapped under her massive body weight. I hate her to the core!

My Mouse
My mouse isn't working well. When I direct it to go left, it sometimes doesn't want to move. I'll click it, but it won't feel my tap, so I have to push it hard. Once today, it got kind of nutty and did a shaky-wiggle thing all by itself.
I had a tech person open my computer and look at my mouse. Other than a few dog hairs falling off of the battery, things looked pretty normal. He couldn't even find moisture from the little bit of tea that cascaded onto the mouse last week.
I think I'll try giving it some cheese.
That ought to do it!
