Would you say, "Yes" to a friend invite from a stranger who looks like this?
Let me rephrase the question, if you hadn't been married since before this kid was born . . . would you?
My daughter got the random invite, but she told handsome, "No" because after a reverse google search (however you do that), she found the photo to be a fake. When I google searched the name of the person seeking new friends, I found the photo below.
I have a feeling this is not the guy looking to hook up with young college girls, but I may be wrong.
Yep. My daughter went down the slippery slope of engaging in conversation with a stranger on the internet. Of course, I've met all of you blog visitors personally, right? At least that's what I'd like to tell my kid. Anyway, she's definitely mine. Here is a transcript of her conversation with the stranger.
1:51am
Erica:
Hi Jack!
I just wanted to say that whoever you are that you should not hide it.
Embrace yourself and actually use a real account instead of creating a
fake one. Hopefully you will learn to have better self esteem in the
future. I wish you the best of luck in life!
-Erica
2:02am
Jack:
how do you know that's actually not me
2:03am
Erica:
You just changed the picture. But I did a reverse image search because the profile picture looked unreal.
2:06am
Jack:
you shouldnt care that much
2:08am
Erica:
well you shouldn't friend people that you don't actually know.
2:08am
Jack:
well you should just ignore it
2:09am
Erica: I did. notice that we are not actually friends.
2:09am
Jack:
but you are talking to me so that is not ignoring but okay
2:10am
Erica:
yea you do make a fantastic point but at the same time I am distracting
myself from doing homework and trying to teach a stranger a valuable
lesson so I feel that it is a win win for me.
2:11am
Jack:
thanks mom. you shouldnt put your nose in other peoples sh*t. and do your homework. its important
2:12am
Erica:
Well thanks for trying to teach me a valuable lesson as well! Now why
don't you go back to creepily friending people that you don't know. It
was a pleasure talking to you. And by friending me you made it my
business btw! Good night!
2:12am
Jack:
nice chattin with ya
2:13am
Erica:
Nice chatting with you as well!
I think he chatted with her just to see her beautiful face over and over again. Below is my response to her after she shared the chat and hoped I wasn't mad at her for making a blog worthy post with a stranger:
Joyce: Quit stalling with the homework.
Notice the time stamp on the conversation. Yep, proof! It was definitely the older gentleman in the second picture.
BTW, is it weird to want to correct the spelling, grammar, and capitalization of her conversation before posting? I left it as is, however, I did edit the curse word. :)

I am home from work today but will soon be headed to synagogue to usher in the new year 5774. This is the actual year, had the world not started the count over again at the time of the common era. I like the calendar reporting events this way because B.C. is confusing. For example, one can be born in 254 BC and die in 198. So how old was the dude when he died? See what I mean? Not that anyone keeps track of dudes from back when, unless he was an angry Caesar (not the salad) who used his enemies as cat chow. Contrary to movie scenes, Caesar did not feed Christians to lions because he lived before Christianity--but I digress.
We celebrate Rosh Hashanah through the blowing of the shofar, a rams horn, to represent our call to worship. I've tried blowing into ram's horns but all I get is winded and drool down my chin. Kudos to those who can make them sound.
Also, last night, after services, we attended a wonderful party where we
dipped apples in honey as a symbol of a sweet new year. If you haven't tried this, I highly recommend an apple, bowl of honey, and a wet wipe to keep your fingers from sticking together like silk to Spiderman.
Most importantly, this is the week for us to reflect upon the year and seek forgiveness from anyone whom we have hurt, knowingly or not. So, if I did or said anything to hurt your feelings, please forgive me. Sure, God will forgive us, but he asks that we seek forgiveness from those we have sinned against first. It is most important that we forgive each other and work to get along among those we live with because that's what counts in the eyes of the Lord.
L'Shana Tova Tikva Tenu
Happy New Year to all those celebrating the High Holy Days.
Monday is Labor Day, which is a day in which we honor workers by not working.
Here is my favorite song on that topic.

GBE2's blog topic this week is "Never." Here's my top ten list of things I would NEVER do.
1.) SCUBA dive
In
high school, I took a SCUBA diving class. When Mr. Lundt mentioned
the risks, I dropped the class.
2.) Become a US president
I know--powdered wig--humor me!
History
has shown that most US presidents leave office with gray hair. I'm
already working hard enough to cover the gray I have and don't need
more.
3.) Sky dive
If I wet my pants on the roller coaster, I don't think people would appreciate yellow rain from the sky. Which brings me to the next one.
4.) Roller Coasters
5.) Eat bugs and crap
I'm not into eating gross stuff, and it's probably not kosher anyway. Not that I keep kosher, but if faced with eating bugs, it would be a good time to start.
6.) Be on Survivor
Life has taught me that I'd be the first voted off the island, so I think I'll skip the show.
7.) Pierce a tongue
8.) Wear a bikini
Do I have to explain this one?
9.) Convert
Sorry dear friends. I know you pray for me, but I'm strong in my
Judaism and if that means burning in hell, let's hope someone supplies
sunblock in the afterlife.
10.) Get Published
Psych! Although it feels hopeless at times, I'm going to do it. I decided that even though Bompsy has been around the block more times than Lindsay Lohan (or should I now say Miley Cyrus?), it's a great novel and deserves a home.

Between starting a new school year, making gifted referrals, parent meetings, and math workshops, I haven't had much down time this week. In fact, when one works ten to twelve hour days, it's tough to post or visit blogs. However, I am glad to learn that I am NOT stressed due to my passing the dolphin test by seeing identical dolphins in the photo.
Why don't you check out your stress level?
The
picture below has two identical dolphins in it. It was used in a case study on
stress levels at St. Mary's Hospital.
Look at both dolphins jumping out of the water. The dolphins are identical. A closely monitored, scientific
study revealed that, in spite of the fact that the dolphins are identical; a
person under stresswould find differences in the two
dolphins. The moredifferences a person finds between the
dolphins, the more stress that person is
experiencing.

It's not a first step for me, or for anyone I know, but it is for a stranger with Myelodysplastic Disorder. This means the cells in her bone marrow are damaged and cannot produce new blood cells. Some of the cells that are produced are not normal, so the body destroys these. This disease often leads to leukemia and can be fatal; however, with a matching donor, stem cells may be added to her blood stream thus allowing her doctors and God to repair her body, so she may produce new blood cells on her own.
The first steps started with my husband who underwent an extensive physical and then took two shots a day, every day for five days. The shots filtered stem cells from his bone marrow to his blood stream. He could actually feel the stem cells moving and developed aches in his back which led to trouble sleeping.
Today was the big day. Mitchell spent four hours hooked up to a machine that removed stem cells from his blood and then placed the blood back into his body with an added saline solution.
The procedure was a success with the collection removing double the stem cells needed. This means that they might be able to freeze the stem cells for later use.
Mitchell is already feeling a little better and will be home tomorrow. Thank goodness my husband was willing to take the first steps to help a stranger fight cancer.
As mentioned last week, Thursday is the day of my husband's stem cell donation, where he will be saving a stranger's life. Here's a song dedicated to him.

Last night, we took in a Red Birds game. There's nothing like sitting in the comfortable night air, listening to the crack of bat against ball. At one point, I ducked a rogue ball that slammed
the awning above me instead of striking my head. This one was not as close as the bullet (fast ball) that tore in between a friend and me while having a conversation in a party room years ago. Baseball games are dangerous.
The highlight of the evening took place at the food court. A stranger chased after a man, grabbed his arm, and said, "They'll let anyone in here."
After receiving a mortified look, the man said, "Oops. I thought you were Steve." Steve, I didn't know your reputation follows you all the way to the states.
A sixty-five year old stranger awaits stem cells to save her from cancer. Luckily, she's a match to my husband who will be undergoing a procedure next week to remove cells from his bone marrow. Leading up to the donation, he has undergone an extensive physical and will receive daily shots. Due to his courageous gift, she should recover.
Last week, we took a road trip to move our daughter to Michigan. When I think of car trips, Jessica by the Allan Brothers comes to mind, and we even heard it on the radio.

In the 1960s, six of us crowded around our kitchen table for our nightly family dinner. As the youngest, I sat plastered against the wall but have come to like those wall seats. Mom cooked well done meat and soft vegetables, which were good until I tasted a rarer version of meat and greens that crunch.
Surrounded by bigger people, I learned to interrupt and speak loudly, two habits I've spent my lifetime trying to break. Talk usually focused around what the older kids were doing or something that didn't concern me, yet I liked being with my family.
I hated the milk Mom forced me to drink and am, no doubt, guilty of not pushing it on my kids. It never occurred to us to complain about the small table, our tiny shared room, or sitting shoulder to shoulder in the Chevrolet. Nor did I notice that my mother used half the required amount of sugar in her chocolate chip cookies. This made the chips especially good when we chewed them while sitting at the kitchen table.
After moving to Memphis, several flocks of birds settled on the lawns around me. Why are all these birds here? I thought. Birds are supposed to fly south for the winter. Then it dawned on me, this is the south, and we're stuck with birds pooping on cars all year long. So much for mild winters. They wouldn't be bad except I love snow, and we don't see much.
Summer is another issue. Come July in Memphis, it's hot! Not upper seventies or eighties but hot. Luckily we've only hit the triple digits a few weeks this summer, so it's been a cool year; however, come August, we'll probably be there. Last school year, the kids suffered through indoor recess throughout August because it was too hot to play outside.
None-the-less, I still go for runs but leave the fur faces behind. One can get used to heat, which will be good for me in the after life. ;)
Many spend their days dieting to fit into that skimpy bikini. It would be great to be thin, but I just gotta have that cheeseburger. I love Jimmy Buffett!

This week's
theme for The Writer's Post Thursday Blog Hop #85 is Ghost Stories. You may post about any weird
or fun adventure that you or a friend
experienced. Or if you'd like, make one up. When finished, please link your
post back here at Catch My Wordsand link up on the Writer's Post Facebook page. Happy
haunting!
After back
surgery, the simple act of rolling over was a painful feat. However a ghostly friend
chose to help. As I faced sideways, an image
of an almost bald man, with a
pleasant smile and a red plaid shirt, floated next to my bed. Without moving
his lips, he asked me if I wanted to roll over. I telepathically told him,
"Yes." He then floated downward until he disappeared. Once he was
gone, I easily rolled to my other side.
The next day,
I told my sister about my ghostly visitor. She too had seen this dude in her
room one night. Doo doo doo. Was I dreaming? Maybe, but how did I easily turn
over? Why had my sister seen the same man? Perhaps he was a ghost from a past
life we shared or maybe I'm just crazy.
When we saw the new Three Stooges movie on TV, I was reminded of the Curly Shuffle. "Oh, wise guy. Nyuk! Nyuk!" Enjoy this tune by Jump N the Saddle, but also, don't try this at home. When my friend was a toddler learning to walk, he had the rug ripped out from under him-literally–after his brothers watched The Three Stooges. Time out for Mom? Not this way.
